Shelby F-250 Super Baja

Racing meets Rugged.

Shelby American Inc., one of the world’s most famous and well-respected automotive performance brands, once again partnered with Tangent, and Tuscany Motor Company, to design and develop the limited edition 2023 Shelby F-250 Super Baja.

The new Shelby F-250 Super Baja represents a massive leap forward over the outgoing model, adding numerous new and custom features, including a new grille, functional hood and fender vent, chase rack, off-road bumper, and custom lighting features.

Shelby, in conjunction with Tuscany Motor Co., tasked Tangent with the design and development of all the Super Baja’s custom exterior features from 2D sketch concepts to final 3D tool ready parts.

Adapting the Brand.

Tangent, starting with Ford’s all new 2023 F-250, set out to adapt Shelby’s iconic brand language to a larger and more rugged canvas. The new F-250’s grille presented our team with a unique challenge. We needed to apply Shelby’s open air hexagonal mesh, and classic A-frame styling to a grille surround that was more complex than ever. The unique solution involved visually tying off the outer looped light bars into a robust styling feature that adds visual and physical structure and Shelby’s classic racing fins to a more classically “open” grille format, while providing space for the equally iconic Shelby A-frame.

This unique effort to break-up features also finds its way to the Super Baja’s custom fender vent, which divides its large footprint into two distinctly Shelby sections, showing off the icon Snake logo, as well as the Shelby hex.

Class-A Effort.

After settling on 2D design directions for the Super Baja’s custom parts, Tangent worked closely with Shelby and Tuscany to develop each part in Autodesk Alias, using our class-A modeling expertise to deliver tool ready parts that captured the essence of our 2D vision.

Additional visualization effort applied via VRED to develop marketing materials, as well as color and trim options for Shelby’s marketing teams.
