Tangent once again partnered with Tuscany Motor Co. and Harley Davidson Motorcycles to design and develop the new for 2023 GMC Sierra Harley Davidson edition. Building off the success of the previous HD Sierra model, Tangent was tasked with updating the refreshed GMC Sierra with Harley’s iconic design features.
Notable updates to the 2023 GMC Sierra HD include a new grille with Harley’s iconic bar & shield hex, as well new Harley Davidson lettering on the lower facia, and an updated orange surround on the main grille. Additional features include a new lower bumper, with an integrated skid plate & orange HD inspired tow hooks and light bar.
Tangent’s responsibilities included the 2D & 3D design & development of the GMC Sierra HD’s updated parts, as well project coordination between the Harley and Tuscany teams. Tangent worked closely with the Harley Davidson design team to develop design themes that would work with the refreshed Sierra’s facia, and meet the standards set by the previous GMC HD Sierra model.
After selecting a 2D design theme, Tangent used 3D CAD software to develop the refreshed grille and bumper surfaces, ensuring that each part maintained the Class-A surfacing standard set by the OEM. The Tangent team utilized its extensive knowledge of thermo-forming and injection mold techniques to produce production ready parts from the previously approved 2D designs.
During the 3D development process, Tangent utilized it’s in house rendering software to visualize the updated 3D parts in photo real environments, and in real time using VR software. This real time visualization allowed Tangent to have virtual design walk throughs with the Tuscany and Harley design teams, ensuring that both teams were in sync every step of the way.
