2026 Shelby F-150 Off Road

10 Years of Excellence.

Tangent together with iconic performance manufacturer Shelby American, and sub-brand Shelby Performance, teamed up to design & develop the 2026 Shelby F-150 Off Road, Shelby’s latest iteration of its iconic F-150 super truck. Tangent’s responsibilities included the design and development of numerous proprietary parts, including an injection molded grille, aluminum hood and the most ambitious front bumper assembly of any Shelby vehicle to date.

Inspired by Shelby’s rich racing and performance heritage, as well as previous collaborations between Tangent and Shelby, Tangent looked to raise the bar on this 10th Anniversary model. This meant taking a more radical design approach to the Shelby’s numerous bespoke parts, including taking inspiration from Shelby’s road and race going Mustangs.

F-150 Bones, Mustang DNA.

Tangent and Shelby’s refresh of the 2026 Shelby F-150 started out with a simple goal in mind; bring the Shelby Super Snake’s DNA to Shelby’s line of trucks. Taking styling cues from the Super Snake, Tangent designed a grille with a smaller A-Frame profile, but larger side intakes, reviving the Shelby lettering in order to color match the Truck’s optional stripe package. New additions to the grille include Raptor style marker lights, and more robust accent pieces with matching body color paint.

Taking further inspiration from the Shelby GT-500, the F-150 Off Road’s bumper incorporates multiple accent pieces and a split-wing design that pays homage to Shelby’s most legendary Mustang. Rounding out the refreshed design is an aluminum, fully functional dual intake hood, and DOT compliant front and rear fenders with custom marker lights.

A Refined Palette.

Tangent began the development process with a combination of 2D sketching, and VRED based underlays of Ford’s various F-150 trim levels, to ensure that every sketched detail and component would accurately reflect its real-life counterpart.

After settling on a 2D direction, Tangent began modeling the Shelby’s numerous injection molded parts in Autodesk Alias, a Class-A surfacing software, bringing the design from concept level surfaces, all the way to tool ready parts. This process included the development of a new for 2026, multidimensional grille mesh, that underwent significant development from 2D Illustrator vector patterns to detailed cut away sketches, all the way to a final, injection mold ready pattern.

Without the support of a full-size clay model to evaluate surfaces, Tangent turned to it’s in house, VRED powered, virtual reality set up to create a full-scale walk-through environment, which provided Tangent with critical insights into the design and scale of each of the Shelby F-150’s numerous exterior upgrades.

Utilizing VRED’s powerful rendering software, Tangent was able to visualize the Shelby F-150 in real time, generating photo real images for marketing materials and client reviews, ensuring that every image would be of a consistent quality and accuracy for client evaluations and design discussions.

The 2026 Shelby F-150 Off Road debuted earlier this year and is limited to only 600 models.
