Tangent and frequent collaborator Cortech recently partnered to develop Cortech’s latest line of behavioral health furniture, the 2025 Nightingale Award winning Sequoia series.

The Sequoia series is collection of molded wood grain behavioral health furniture that combines the durability of roto-molded plastic, with the warmth and dignity of traditional wooden furniture. Working closely with Crotech’s development team, and chosen suppliers, Tangent developed 2D concepts & 3D CAD models for a collection of bedroom pieces that would work in a variety of behavioral health settings.
By using single piece molded polyethylene frames, each piece removes the necessary joints and exposed fasteners that come with more traditional furniture, reducing part complexity and the potential for misuse. Additionally, the molded plastic pieces aid in the ease of cleaning and upkeep, while maintaining a hygienic, ligature free environment.

A Cortech first, the molded wood grain features of the Sequoia series bring a calming, human-centered element to any behavioral health setting. This unique addition allows the Sequoia series to blend therapeutic design with the long-term performance of roto-molded polyethylene.
The Sequoia Series earned a 2025 Gold Nightingale Award in the Anti-Ligature & Reduced-Ligature Furnishings category.
