HARLEY DAVIDSON x TUSCANY MOTOR CO.

Bigger and bolder.

Tangent together with iconic motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson and Elkhart based premium truck up-fitter Tuscany Motor Co., teamed up to develop the 2020 Harley Davidson F-250, the third collaboration between Tangent, Tuscany, and Harley to date. Tangent’s responsibilities included the design and development of over 60 proprietary parts, as well the creation of marketing material, and project coordination between Harley and Tuscany Motor Co.

Inspired by Harley’s rich heritage, as well as the 2019 HD F-150, Tangent was tasked with the development of a multitude of custom parts, meant to set the 2020 HD F-250 apart from the pack.  These parts include 22-inch aluminum wheels inspired by Harley’s “Fat Boy” motorcycle, an all-new painted grill with orange Harley accents, lighted running board, fender vents with orange piping and HD logos, a new front bumper with custom skid plate, and a functional ram-air hood with unique venting, to name just a few.

Working closely from sketches provided by Harley Davidson’s design center, and from sketches developed in house in conjunction with the HD styling team, Tangent was tasked with the design and 3D CAD development of all the HD F250’s exterior modifications, from the generation of initial concept data, to final, tool ready parts.

Without the support of a full size clay model to evaluate surfaces, Tangent turned to it’s in house, VRED powered, virtual reality set up to create a full scale walk through environment, which provided members of Harley Davidson, Tuscany, and Tangent with critical insights into the design and scale of each of the F-250’s numerous exterior modifications. Utilizing VRED’s powerful rendering software, Tangent was able to visualize the HD F-250 in real time, generating photo real images for marketing materials and client walk throughs.
